Police issue gun permit to 10-month-old boy

Someone sent in an application for a gun permit that included a $5 check and the following information:

Last Name: Ludwig
First Name: Bubba
Date of Birth: 2006
Sex: Male Race: White
Height: 2 ft 3 in Weight: 20 lbs

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? No
In the past 5 years, have you been a patient in any medical facility or part of any medical facility used primarily for the care or treatment of persons for mental illness? No
Are you addicted to narcotics? No
Are you mentally retarded? No
Are you an alien who is unlawfully present in the United States? No

Signature: [a scribble]

There's one important question they didn't ask: Are you an infant?

If they had, the Illinois State Police would have learned that they were about to issue a Firearm Owner's Identification Card to a 10-month-old baby named Howard David Ludwig. His father, also named Howard, filed the form after someone bought the baby a 12-gauge shotgun.

"As a FOID cardholder, baby Bubba can own a firearm and ammunition in Illinois. He can also legally transport an unloaded weapon -- though he can't walk yet, so that's not an issue," his father writes in the Daily Southtown, where he works as a columnist. "The plastic card has a picture of a toothless, grinning Bubba in the upper right corner. It includes his name, address and date of birth."

In their defense, the police say they're following the law. "There is nothing in the FOID Act or any of the rules that says anything about age restrictions," Lt. Scott Compton tells the paper.

Yeah, I checked the 2nd amendment real quick, you know, to make sure; I didn't see any restrictions in there, either. In fact, I noticed this part about "shall not be infringed". Made me wonder what the permit was for, actually.

Great story, btw.

BATF in coordination with SWAT should have made a daring 3 am raid into the household and have the infant maced and tazed into submission in his crib

All kidding aside......

Dad should have kept his dam piehole shut.........by him broadcasting this SNAFU all he did is made it worse for other people who have a application under review( He can also forget having anymore permits approved either.)

Have a good chuckle among your friends but be considerate of others when you insult these hacks.

If effects more than just you.

The IL State pigs have zero sense of humor about the FOID system. Wouldn't surprise me at all if the father had his FOID card yanked in retaliation for this. Legal firearms ownership is completely at the whim of the state in the Democratik People's Republik of Il-annoy. FOID sucks :s15:

I dunno.

It looks like he (the father) listed it as the kids first name and its on the FOID card.

You still have to be at least 18 to purchase a rifle, 21 to purchase a hand gun, and 18 to purchase ammo. There is also a warning on the face of the FOID card which reads: "CAUTION: This card does not permit bearer to UNLAWFULLY carry or use firearms. This does not authorize the carrying of a concealed weapon."

It's not like there's going to be a little toddler named Bubba running around packing heat.

I wish the media would be as quick to point out the insanity of the idea of a Firearm Owner's Identification Card. What's wrong with the information provided on our state driver's license? It's the exact same info. The exact same photo. And the exact same person with the exact same backgroud.

It's just another brick in the wall.
